Harrison Burton scores first career win, Wood Brothers’ 100th at Daytona

Harrison Burton won his first career NASCAR Cup Series race winning at Daytona International Speedway. The win came weeks after it was confirmed that Burton would not be returning the the Wood Brothers and the No. 21 Ford in 2025. For the Wood Brothers it is their 100th career win and places them and Burton into the Cup Series Playoffs.

Michael McDowell and teammate Todd Gilliland began the race on the front row. Three lanes of cars dominated the first stage with Josh Berry claiming his first stage win. After cars hit pit road, Daniel Suarez would have to return to the pits after backfire from Denny Hamlin would cause the rear to ignite.

Corey LaJoie saw possibly his best chance at a win to make the playoffs go away after running into Noah Gragson and setting off a chain reaction which involved 18 cars. Joey Logano would end up claiming the second stage ahead of his Penske Racing teammate Ryan Blaney.

As the third stage raced on, drivers began to prepare themselves for green flag pitstops for fuel. Those pitstops would come under caution after Kyle Larson gave John Hunter Nemechek a shove which resulted in Nemechek being turned off the nose of Justin Haley.

McDowell’s hopes of a win went away after contact from Austin Cindric setting off a multicar incident which also eliminated Logano who had led a race high 34 laps. On the restart Josh Berry would get turned and go airborne in a crash that involved 14 before a red flag came out.

After the red flag cleared, Harrison Burton would get out front on the white flag lap holding off Kyle Busch.
