With Alexander Rossi suffering a broken right thumb after hitting the turn 8 tire barrier near the end of Friday’s NTT IndyCar Series practice in Toronto the Arrow McLaren team found itself in need of a driver.

Theo Pourchaire, who ran races in the No. 6, has been tabbed by the team to drive the No. 7 entry this weekend. Since Pourchaire was in Europe at the time of the call the driver will miss Saturday’s practice session and see his first time in the car during qualifying Saturday afternoon.

The Arrow McLaren team released the following statement.

“Théo will arrive to the track ahead of the qualifying session Saturday afternoon, missing Practice 2 as he travels to Toronto from Europe.

“Alexander has returned to Indianapolis to begin his treatment and the team wishes him a quick recovery.”

Pourchaire previously was signed by the team to finish the IndyCar season in the No. 6 after David Malukas was released due to a left wrist injury suffered in the off season. The team would replace the F2 champion and current Saber reserve driver with Nolan Siegel who was signed to a multi-year deal.

During his limited time in the series, Pourchaire’s best finish came at Detroit where he finished 10th.
