Josef Newgarden wins IndyCar opener in St. Petersburg, Full Results

Josef Newgarden won Sunday’s NTT IndyCar Series opener in St. Petersburg. The win is his third at the track.

Polesitter Josef Newgarden would lead early before losing the lead on  pit stops following a caution for Marcus Armstrong who got into a tire barrier. Newgarden would begin to pick off those ahead of him as Pato O’Ward followed.

Sting Ray Robb would go off the course on lap 35 ending his day and bringing out the second caution. Christan Lundgaard would pit during the caution giving Newgarden the lead back. Lundgaard was on a different pit strategy after suffering a tire puncture on the first lap of the race.

Past the halfway point in the race the car driven by Marcus Ericsson would retire. Newgarden would finish the race with more than an eight second lead over second place Pato O’Ward as his Penske teammates Scott McLaughlin and Will Power finished third and fourth.
