Patriots waive QB Malik Cunningham

On Tuesday the New England Patriots waived rookie quarterback/Wide receiver Malik Cunningham. The move comes just ten days after the team signed him to their active roster from the practice squad.

Should he clear waivers there is a good chance the Patriots will bring him back to their practice squad.

The Patriots brought Cunningham to the active roster for the Oct. 15 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. During that came he served as the backup quarterback to Mac Jones and was part of the team’s depth chart at wide receiver in what turned out to be a 21-17 loss.

Cunningham played six snaps in the game against the Raiders lining up at quarterback two times and taking a sack.

The Patriots have returned Bailey Zappe to the backup role behind Jones with Will Grier now serving as the No. 3 emergency option.

Veteran defensive end Trey Flowers was also released by the team on Tuesday. Flowers had previously been designated to return from injured reserve.
