Patriots cut Matt Corral after nine days

Matt Corral’s time on the New England Patriots depth chart as the backup quarterback lasted nine days.

The Patriots made the interesting decision to cut Bailey Zappe at the end of the preseason opting to bring in Corral. Later the Patriots resigned Zappe.

Now it appears that Zappe will be in the backup quarterback for the Patriots behind starter Mac Jones.

Zappe was 2-0 as a fill-in starter for Jones during the 2022 season finishing the year 65-of-92 while throwing for 781 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions.

Corral was a third-round pick of the Carolina Panthers last year but missed his entire rookie season with a foot injury. The Panthers opted to draft Bryce Young with the first overall pick in the 2023 draft ending Corral’s time with the team.
