William Byron wins at Atlanta, Cup Series Results

William Byron won the Quaker State 400 Available at Walmart.

The NASCAR Cup Series ran the 1.54-mile Atlanta Motor Speedway in the evening with 37 cars taking the green flag.

Aric Almirola began the race on the pole with Ryan Blaney along side him. Almirola would jump out to the lead with the first caution coming on lap 17 after Harrison Burton got lose and spun. Almirola would lead the field on the restart as concerns about rain began to circulate with some fearing the race may be to the midway point. Joey Logano would get around Almirola but the final lap of the first stage would see Blaney narrowly beat Kyle Larson to the line with Martin Truex, Logano and William Byron rounding out the top five. Almirola would finish the stage 10th.

On his way out of the pits Truex would get spun by Michael McDowell causing him to fall to the back of the field. Racing in the back of the field due to a pit road penalty, Byron would be spun by Corey LaJoie to bring out the third caution.

Tyler Reddick would get a penalty after his crew got over the wall too soon. Chase Elliott would have have to pit a second time due to a loose wheel nut. Kyle Larson would go around for the fourth caution after what may have been contact from Erik Jones.

Chris Buescher would move to the front of the field as Larson would retire from the race. Jones and LaJoie would get together to bring out the fifth caution as the race crept to the halfway point. With the race halfway Austin Cindric and Brad Keselowski raced side by side. Alex Bowman would get loose and into Denny Hamlin with six laps to go in the second stage. That would cause the stage to end under caution with Keselowski out front.

While Keselowski and the other up front would pit, others who had pitted more recently stayed out. Byron would assume the lead on the restart. Bubba Wallace and Ryan Preece would spin on lap 178 to bring out a caution as Byron and others up front had to make a decision between pitting or staying out and hoping for weather.

With Byron in the lead NASCAR pulled cars down the pit road as rain fell giving the driver of the No. 24 his fourth win of the season.
