Herta eyeing strong Grand Prix run as set up to Indy 500

Colton Herta is hoping that a strong performance this weekend in the GMR Grand Prix will set up a strong run in the Indianapolis 500 at the end of the month.

Rain could be a factor this weekend during the Indianapolis GMR which left driver Colton Herta to joke “we are good” while meeting with reporters.

Herta stressed that while he has won the Grand Prix he has “not done it the right way” and is still seeking that win at the end of May.

As with any form of motorsports, Herta is aware that one strong performance in the Grand Prix can lead his Andretti Autosprot team to go on a strong run.

“We’ve never been slow here. We’ve always had good cars here. It’s a place I feel comfortable coming to,” said Herta. “It’s a great event to kick off May.”

Earlier this season Andretti Autosport made the decision to swap strategists for Herta and teammate Kyle Kirkwood. That resulted in Herta’s father Bryan being replaced by Scott Harner.

“Scott’s been very similar in the way he speaks,” said Herta. “It has not been too much of an adjustment. It really has not been too much of a difference.”

The GMR Grand Prix takes place Saturday at 3:30 pm ET at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on the road course. Coverage of the race will air on NBC, Peacock, IndyCar Live and SiriusXM Radio.
