The Braves activated infielder Orlando Arcia on Sunday ahead of their morning game against the Orioles.
In order to make room for Arcia on the roster the Braves have optioned Vaughn Grissom to Triple-A Gwinnett. Grissom hit .277/.314/.308 with five runs scored in 70 trips to the plate. In addition to the empty batting average, Grissom has struggled with the glove during his time at the majors committing six errors in his 19 games to amass a -0.7 WAR.
After the Braves made the decision to call up Braden Shewmake the writing has been on the wall for Grissom. What Shewmake lacks at the plate he will make up for in the field.
The Braves are forgoing a rehab assignment for Arcia who had a microfracture in his left wrist. Expect Arcia to get the bulk of the starts at shortstop for the Braves going forward.
In his 13 games before the injury Arcia was hitting .333/.400/.511 with two homers and seven RBI.
