Cody Ware suspended by NASCAR following arrest

A day after Cody Ware did not compete at Bristol Motor Speedway he was suspended from NASCAR competition indefinitely.

Ware is listed in the jail records of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office indicating he is facing a felony charge of “assault by strangulation – inflict serious injury” and a misdemeanor charge of “assault on female.” Ware’s bond was set at $3,000 after his arrest.

Matt Crafton filled in for Rick Ware Racing in place of Ware on the dirt at Bristol finishing 34th after an engine issue.

RWR released the following statement about Ware and their plans going forward.

“MOORESVILLE, NC (April 10, 2023) — We are aware of the incident regarding Cody Ware and his indefinite suspension from NASCAR competition. We understand NASCAR’s position on this matter and accept their decision. The matter is still under investigation and Cody is fully cooperating with the authorities, as due process takes its course. RWR is committed to continuing our multi-car efforts in the NASCAR Cup Series and is in the process of finalizing our plans for the No. 51 entry at Martinsville Speedway, and beyond.   These plans will be announced in the coming days.”

This is not the first time that one of Rick Ware’s sons have been arrested. In 2021 Carson Ware was arrested and suspended for charges of assaulting a female, simple assault, and injury to personal property. Carson Ware was suspended by NASCAR at the time but later was reinstated in June of 2022.
