Unable to find a taker for his contract, the New York Mets have released Darin Ruf.
The Mets will end up eating the remaining $3.25 million on Ruf’s contract after designating him for assignment a week ago.
Teams may be willing to take a gamble on Ruf on a minor league deal where he could be a left handed option either as a platoon or off the bench.
In spring training this season Ruf appeared in 11 games getting 35 plate appearances while producing a .167/.265/.233 line.
Despite earning the frustrations of fans, Ruf did compile one interesting stat as a player. On August 15, 2022 Ruf became the first Mets position player to throw multiple scoreless innings in a single game when he threw two winnings allowing a lone hit against the Atlanta Braves.
Over the course of an eight year career Ruf owns a .239/.329/.432 slash line with 67 home runs while appearing in 561 games between the Philadelphia Phillies, San Francisco Giants, and New York Mets.
