Zane Smith won a crash and rain filled NASCAR Truck Series season opener on Friday night. It was the latter that would end the night and give the driver of the No. 38 Ford a win less than an hour before midnight.

The race was called at 11:12 pm ET with 21 laps remaining. With the win Smith is now a two-time winner of the Daytona opener.

“I know there’s about a million ways to get one at Daytona, but we’re proving that,” Smith said. “Obviously wanted to go back racing there, somewhat, to duke it out with good friends of mine actually, but, hey, we’ll take a win at Daytona any day we can get it. Just a huge shout-out to everyone at Front Row Motorsports. This whole group, I’ve said it over and over again, they work their guts out, and they prove it. Locked into the playoffs, it’s like a repeat of last year.”

Smith led 17 laps in the race including the final 15 run.

Former Cup Series champion Chase Elliott appeared in the race finishing 10th while Travis Pastrana, who is also pulling double duty this weekend, finished 13th. Hailie Deegan was involved in a multi-truck accident on lap 28 ending her day. Stewart Friesen would also be collected in a multi-truck accident during stage two.

The race was stopped with 27 laps to go with trucks called to pit road. After an hour under red flag they would return to the track for six laps under caution before a mist would again force them off the track. At that point NASCAR made the decision to end the race early.

Christian Eckes won the first stage of the race with Tyler Ankrum winning the second.
