Anibal Sanchez considering MLB return

Anibal Sanchez did not pitch during the 2021 MLB season but the right hander does not seem ready to accept retirement.

According to Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, Sanchez has felt “rejuvenated after the time off, throwing with what appears to be more velocity than in recent years.” Sanchez is scheduled to throw in front of a scout with a radar gun before deciding whether or not to attempt a return.

Sanchez, 37, struggled to a 6.62 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and a 43/18 K/BB ratio over 53 innings in 2020 for the Nationals.

Despite his struggles and a year away from the game one cannot completely rule Sanchez out of a return as the market for pitching in free agency is thin. If Sanchez shows the aforementioned velocity he should have some invitations to spring training.
