There may be some slight changes but the car driven by Josh Bilicki at Darlington will have a familiar look to it.
Josh Bilicki, Rick Ware Racing, and sponsor Insurance King will run a throwback scheme to that of Lennie Pond’s No. 54 Burger King car.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to honor the late Lennie Pond this year at Darlington,” says Bilicki. “My friends at Insurance King are always very creative with their paint schemes, so when they came to me with this idea, I was all for it. Like myself, Lennie Pond worked very hard to get to the NASCAR Cup Series and turn his passion into a career. NASCAR was built around blue-collar workers like Lennie, so naturally, I felt that this was a great tribute.”
During his career, Pond had 234 career starts, one win, 39 top fives, 88 top tens, five poles, and a best championship finish of 5th in 1976. Pond beat out Darrell Waltrip for rookie of the year honors in 1973. Pond’s win came at Talladega Superspeedway.
The NASCAR Cup Series Throwback Race at Darlington Raceway will take place on Sunday, May 9th and will be televised live on FS1 at 2:30PM ET.
