Ryan Newman making return to NASCAR at Darlington

NASCAR resumes on track activity this weekend at Darlington Raceway and will welcome back a familiar face in the No. 6 Ford Mustang of Roush Fenway Racing.

Ryan Newman will compete in his first race since a scary last lap accident in the season opening Daytona 500.

“I’m so excited and thankful to be healthy to get back into the race car. I am thankful for all the people and support that have prayed for me and given me a multitude of miracles. I cannot think of a better track to start back at than Darlington, my favorite track and one we feel confident in. I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of the Oscar Mayer Ford.”

Newman was cleared to return to racing on April 28 and was granted a waiver making him eligible for the NASCAR playoffs after missing events at Las Vegas, Fontana and Phoenix.

Appearing on the No. 6 car this weekend will be Oscar Mayer. This weekend marks Newman’s 22nd start at Darlington in his Cup Series career. He has 13 top-10 finishes at “The Lady in Black” in his career and his 12.6 average finish is his second best of any track next to Richmond (12.3).
