NASCAR has granted waivers for Matt Kenseth and Ryan Newman, making both drivers eligible for the playoffs.
Kenseth was named the driver of the No. 42 car on Monday and will run the rest of the 2020 schedule. Newman has been out of action since a crash on the final lap of the season opening Daytona 500.
In order to qualify for the playoffs drivers had been required to compete in all 36 events and finish inside the top-30 in points (with a win). Drivers can make the playoffs by winning a regular season race or finishing as the top drivers without a win to fill out the remaining spots for a playoff field of 16.
