Still trying to make heads or tails out of Martin Perez getting $6 million deal?

In what surely had to surprise many, Martin Perez was given a contract by the Red Sox for $6 million.

A left hander, some believe this is the reason, Perez had a 5.12 ERA last season for the Twins and was coming off an even more disastrous 2018 where he had a 6.22 ERA for the Rangers.

Perez figures to be the fifth starter for the Red Sox behind Chris Sale, David Price, Eduardo Rodriguez and Nathan Eovaldi.

The asset that keeps getting touted about Perez has been his durability as he has made 32 starts in three of the last four seasons while topping 165 innings.

Of course that asset fails to consider he has not even been a league average pitcher the last two seasons.

It would hardly be a surprise to see the Red Sox replace Perez in the rotation at the first hint of trouble.
