Kurt Suzuki puts on MAGA hat during White House visit

Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki made headlines on Monday after he wore a Make America Great Again hat during the Nationals visit to the White House.

The move prompted president Donald Trump to call Suzuki up to say a few words.

Immediately there was backlash online forcing Suzuki to protect his Twitter account from those looking to state their case on politics. Nationals deliver Sean Doolittle made headlines days earlier after saying he would not visit with Trump due to political differences.

“It was amazing,” Suzuki told USA Today via text message. “That was the president. Just trying to have some fun.

“Everybody makes everything political. It was about our team winning the World Series.”

Suzuki was not alone in being criticized.

Longtime Nationals first basemen – and current free agent – had his nickname changed on Wikipedia from “Mr. National” to “Mr. Nationalist” after presenting Trump with a team jersey and thanking him for “continuing to make America the greatest country to live in the world.”
