Standby driver Matt Crafton is expected to take over the seat of the No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing entry early in Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega.
Paul Menard will start in the No. 21 Ford Mustang but ongoing issues with discs in his neck figure to make his day a short one.
Crafton saw action in the car during Friday’s practice session and finished eight in the Gander Outdoors Truck Series race on Saturday.
“My neck has some disc issues and things that if I were to get upside down, it would be pretty bad,” said Menard. “Normal hits aren’t bad. It’s upside down things that are bad.”
Menard will roll off 14th.
