Stevie Wilkinson becomes first position player to record save

In the 16th inning the Orioles turned to outfielder Stevie Wilkinson to close out Thursday’s game against the Angels.

In getting Brian Goodwin to fly out, Cole Calhoun to ground out and Albert Pujols to pop up, Wilkinson averaged just 54.3 mph.

Saves did not become an official stat until 1969 making Wilkinson the first position player to record one.
