During Darlington Raceway’s annual Throwback Weekend there are throwback schemes and then there are throwback schemes!
Michael Annett will have one of the coolest looking throwback cars during the annual tradition when he gets behind his No. 1 Chevrolet Camaro. While Pilot and Flying J will appear on the rear quarter panels, Baby Ruth is prominently featured on the hood and side panels.
The car is mocked up to look like the No. 1 Ford Thunderbird that Jeff Gordon drove in 1992.
Normally these throwback schemes are simply trying to pair a previous sponsors – or drivers – colors on a new car. Rarely are we treated with the sponsor and even the number correctly matching the scheme it is meant to mimic.
Annett’s car reminds me of the way Chip Ganassi Racing was able to replicate the No. 42 of Kyle Petty and Mellow Yellow back in 2015.
