Jon Gray hoping weight gain helps him in 2019

While many players show up at Spring Training slimmer than the year before, Rockies starter Jon Gray is hoping a bit of weight gain improves his velocity.

Gray is up to 235 pounds according to the Denver Post after checking all the day down to just 209 at one point last year. The right hander is trying to improve upon a 5.12 ERA though 31 starts last season.

“I’m right where I need to be,” said Gray, who claimsto have eaten everything in sight while working on a weight training program. “I’ve been through it all. I’m ready to kick some (butt).”

Now 27, Gray enters the 2019 season hoping to prove he is moreso the pitcher who had a 3.67 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP though 20 starts in 2017.
