Christopher Bell started on the pole but spun on the first lap. Later in the day he would drive back up the field all the way to the lead from 32nd but a bobble in turn one would lead to contact with Austin Cindric in the final session which relegated him to a 32nd place finish.
Daniel Hemric and Cole Custer would win the first two stages of the race and as playoff drivers eyed a chance to ensure their entry into Homestead with a win at the end.
With 61 laps to go the problems for JGR Racing continued as Brandon Jones spun taking out teammate Ryan Preece in the process. Following a caution for contact between Ty Majeski and Ryan Reed, Daniel Hemric, John Hunter Nemechek and Justin Allgaier would all pit after previous attempting to run 73 laps on a tank of gas. Hemric would see his race go away when teammate Shane Lee lost control of his car hitting the No. 21 in the process.
All of this would aid Custer who was able to sneak past Tyler Reddick on the last lap and now advances to Homestead-Miami Speedway with a chance to win the series title. The win was the second of his career.
