Phillies option Aaron Altherr and Mark Leiter to Triple-A

The Phillies have optioned outfielder Aaron Altherr and pitcher Mark Leiter to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

It has been a downright dreadful year for Altherr. The 27-year-old has produced just a .171/.290/.305 batting line to go with six homers and 33 RBI across 248 trips to the plate.

Eventually the Phillies figure to give Altherr another chance to stick with the club but he will have to prove at Triple-A that the .272/.340/.516 line with 19 homers from 2017 was no fluke.

Leiter, 27, has bounced back and forth between Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley this year. He pitched in Sunday’s game allowing three runs in two innings of work raising his ERA to 5.74 on the year in 15 2/3 innings of work.

The 27-year-old outfielder has been a major disappointment this season, slashing a ghastly .171/.290/.305 with six homers and 33 RBI in his 248 plate appearances. He’ll try to figure things out playing everyday at Triple-A and should get another shot in Philadelphia before the end of the season. He can be cut loose in any redraft leagues where he still might be owned.
