If Landon Cassill’s run in the NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series is to continue it will do so in a different ride. On Tuesday, Front Row Motorsports announced that Cassill will not return to the seat of the No. 38 car for the 2018 season.
“We’re thankful for the last two years having Landon as a teammate and an ambassador for our sponsors, and we’ll keep working hard with him and the No. 34 team for the best possible results the remainder of the 2017 season,’’ Front Row Motorsports said in a team released statement Tuesday.
Cassill responded to questions during a break in testing at Martinsville.
“I think it’s definitely upsetting,” Cassill said via NBC Sports. “I think I did a good job for the team and for my sponsors. I certainly work hard for everyone, but it is the business, it is how the sport goes. It’s definitely a challenging time in the sport for these teams and drivers and sponsors.
“It’s definitely tough, but I’ve been through this before. It seems like my work ethic and my ability to work with these teams has always kind of carried me.”
Cassill said that the team was expecting to have some major changes next season but could not elaborate on them since he is not part of them.
Cassill’s best finish this year was a 16th place finish in the Daytona 500 to open the season. In his two years with FRM his best finish was an 11th place run in May of 2016 at Talladega. He will make his 254th start in the Cup Series this weekend at Talladega.
FRM has three charters in the Cup Series but his not announced any drivers for the 2018 season for either the No. 34 or No. 38 machines. They currently lease a charter to the No. 72 car which has been driven by Cole Whitt.
