Marshawn Lynch deal reminds us of old Raiders

Marshawn Lynch and the Oakland Raiders have come to terms on a two-year deal. The signing comes a day before the NFL Draft and reminds us of the times when the Raiders would sign an aging veteran to fill out the roster in hopes that they could recapture some of the previous glory.

Lynch probably will do better than Maurice Jones Drew did during his ill-fated trip to the Bay Area but how well a 31-year-0ld running back who sat out last season can actually perform for a team that has not just playoff but Super Bowl aspirations remains to be seen.

In 2015 Lynch managed just seven games in his last season totaling 417 yards and a 3.8 average, nearly a full yard short from his 2014 campaign. Lynch’s 2014 season was the fourth in a string of 1,000 yard seasons he accumulated after joining the Seahawks. Those happy days could be remembered but lets be real for a moment. A 31-year-old running back being signed to be the lead back for a team who went 12-4 and was an unfortunate quarterback injury away from making some post season waves screams of the old days. Maybe I’m wrong, maybe there is still some yards in Lynch’s legs or maybe someone else gets the bulk of the snaps.
