Mets give Antonio Bastardo two-year deal, Jo-Jo Reyes signs on with Marlins

The Mets have signed relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo to a two-year deal.

Bastardo, 30, spent last season with the Pirates tossing 57 1/3 innings while registering a 2.98 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and a 64/23 K/BB ratio. The left hander will assume a set-up role with the Mets ahead of closer Jeurys Familia.

To make room or Bastardo the Mets designated Carlos Torres for assignment. Torres and the Mets recently agreed to a one-year deal in order to avoid arbitration but now becomes the odd-man. At just $1.05 million there is a good chance someone claims Torres on waivers so the Mets may end up trying to work out a deal in order to get something for him.

Spending last season at Triple-A, he posted a 4.32 ERA over 28 games which included 24 starts.
