Bengals will not scale down offense with A.J. McCarron

The Bengals do not plan to limit the offense with A.J. McCarron playing quarterback for an injured Andy Dalton.

“He’s going to start off doing what we need him to do to win. That’s what we pay him for,” offensive coordinator Hue Jackson said via the Cincinnati Enquirer. “If you guys think he’s going to turn around and hand it off 70 times to win a game, then you guys are mistaken. That’s not going to happen.”

Dalton was having a career best season before suffering a thumb injury in Sunday’s loss to the Steelers. When McCarron came into the game he was able to move the ball down the field although it was not without some mistakes.

On Sunday the Bengals play against a 49ers defense which has not been able to get pressure and make turnovers so McCarron has a good match-up.

Ryan Mallett could earn $2.5 million with Ravens

A big arm continues to keep Ryan Mallett around the NFL. After being released by the Texans and sitting at home a few weeks the Ravens called Mallett this week and have signed the quarterback to a deal worth up to $2.5 million according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Mallett signing is part of an ever evolving situation at quarterback for the Ravens who have started both Matt Schaub and Jimmy Clausen since losing Joe Flacco for the season.

Mallett could enter next season as Flacco’s backup.
