The Blue Jays have back J.A. Happ inking the left hander to a three-year deal worth $36 million on Friday.
Happ was nothing more than a back of the rotation starter during his time with the Mariners last year but upon a trade to the Pirates turned things on. In 11 starts with the Pirates he was 7-2 with a 1.85 ERA.
The Blue Jays had Happ on their roster from 2012-2014. The addition of Happ follows the Blue Jays decision to re-sign Marco Estrada to a two-year deal worth $26.5 million and after acquiring Jesse Chavez in a trade with the Athletics.
With the Blue Jays signing Happ to such a large deal the remaining free agent pitchers on the market have to be smiling. Essentially Happ got paid very well for a few strong innings to close out last season.
