Jeff Gordon won Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway. The driver of the No. 24 Chevrolet SS went to victory lane in the Goody’s Headache Shot 500 – the first of three races of the eliminator round.
Joey Logano began the day on the pole but his chances of going to victory lane went away late in the race thanks to Matt Kenseth who may have given Penske driver a bit of payback for Kansas. That put Jeff Gordon into the lead but he and most of the field would pit leaving Denny Hamlin and AJ Allmendinger at the front of the field.
ALlmendinger would get around Hamlin and Gordon would set his sights on him. With 22 to go Gordon would take the lead. He would survive a restart with two laps to go to win his first race of the season and earn his entry into the final round of the Chase at Homestead. This is his 93rd career win.
