Mets pitcher Bobby Parnell ready to begin rehab assignment

The New York Mets may soon be getting back two members of their bullpen. Pitchers Bobby Parnell (Tommy John surgery) and Vic Black are set to begin minor league rehab assignments this weekend.

Ideally Parnell would be able to move into the Mets closers role when he returns to the big leagues. Jenrry Meija is currently sidelined with an elbow issue.

Parnell has not pitched at the big league level in a year so how quickly he could jump into action remains to be seen. In 299 career appearances Parnell owns a 3.59 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Hwever, the Mets will be hoping he can build on the success he had back in 2013 when he saved 22 games posting a 2.16 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP.

As for Black the right hander has been dealing with shoulder tendinitis for the past month. He should need very little time before he is ready to rejoin the big league roster. In two seasons with the Mets, Black owns a career 3.00 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP over 59 games.
