The White Sox have been very active this offseason. On Friday they added veteran reliever Matt Albers on a minor league deal.
Abers can earn $1.5 million this season if he makes the White Sox out of spring training. He made just eight big league appearances ast year while dealing with a shoulder injury.
The right hander is said to be in good heath and was seen reaching 91 mph on the radar gun during a throwing session earlier this month. If healthy he should land in the bullpen and provide the White Sox with a worthwhile reliever.
Astros sign Joe Thatcher
The Astros have signed left handed reliever Joe Thatcher to a minor league deal.
Thatcher will be invited to spring training and if he cracks the roster will earn $1 million during the 2015 season with another $1.3 million available via incentives.
In 53 games last season Thatcher pitched 30 1/3 innings finishing with a 3.86 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He offers a good option against left handed hitters.
