The White Sox have signed infielder Gordon Beckham to one-year contract.
Beckham returns to the White Sox on a $2 million deal after being sent to the Angels in August of last season. Beckham will no longer be thought of as a guy to play daily and may end up in a platoon role with the White Sox at either third or second base.
To make room for the 28-year-old Beckham, the White Sox have designated outfielder Dayan Viciedo for assignment.
Viciedo and the White Sox avoided arbitration earlier this winter agreeing on a one-year deal worth $4.4 million but has been the subject of trade talks since the season ended.
With the additions of Melky Cabrera and Adam LaRoche the White Sox have less of a need for Vicideo who will again be shopped.
