Braves trade Evan Gattis to Astros for three players

The Houston Astors will acquire outfielder/catcher Evan Gattis from the Atlanta Braves for three players.

Gattis’ trade continues an exodus of players from the Braves via trade which has included the likes of Justin Upton and Jason Heyward.

In exchange for Gattis the Astros will send right-hander Mike Foltynewicz, third baseman Rio Ruiz, and right-hander Andrew Thurman to the Braves.

Foltynewicz, 23, appeared in 21 games at Triple-A last season posting a 5.08 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP. His major league debut came last season with the Astros where he pitched 16 games out of the bullpen posting a 5.30 ERA and a 1.61 WHIP. He can reach 100 mph on the radar gun and would seem to have a decent chance of earning the fifth spot in the Braves rotation or a bullpen spot.

The 20-year-old Ruiz spent last season at High-A Lancaster where he hit .293/.387/.436 with 11 home runs and 77 RBI.

The Astros are expected to pencil Gattis in at their DH spot.
