The Oregon Ducks have struck first in the NCAA National Championship game.
Heisman trophy winning quarterback Marcus Mariota tossed a seven yard touchdown to wide receiver Keanon Lowe giving them an early 7-0 lead.
On the opening drive of the game Mariota was 4-of-4 for 30 yards.
The drive was almost halted when Mariota was ruled to have fumbled on a rush but upon booth review the call was reversed allowing the Ducks drive to continue.
