Rangers: Jurickson Profar to begin season in minors

After Jurickson Profar missed the entire 2014 season with a shoulder injury it should come as little surprise that the Texasn Rangers plan to start the 21-year-old in the minors when next season gets underway.

While the Rangers have been encouraged by the recovery of Profar they have him ticketed for Triple-A to start the year rather than contend for a spot as a bench bat.

Rangers general manager Jon Daniels ruled out Profar on the team to start the season. “He needs to play. We’re not going to keep him as our utility guy.” said Daniels via the Star Telegram.

“We’ve been more conservative and patient, and he’s starting from the point where he’s a bigger man,” Daniels said. “There more muscle supporting the joint.”

The Rangers also have no intention to deal Profar.

Though 94 career games Profar owns a .231/.301/.343 line with seven home runs and 32 runs scored at the big league level.

For now Rougned Odor will begin the season as the Rangers second baseman. Odor, 20, finished last season with a .259/.297/.402 line with nine home runs and 48 RBI across 114 games.
