Braves non-tender Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy

It was almost universally agreed that the Braves would tender contracts to pitchers Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy.

Except on Tuesday the Braves opted to not commit to either right hander who is both coming off their second Tommy John surgery.

When healthy both pitchers have shown that they deserve a spot in the rotation but the Braves are not sure when either will be able to contribute in 2015.

Medlen could have earned $6 million in arbitration. The Braves have been talking to the right hander about a two-year deal which could better insulate the team in case he misses a large chunk of the upcoming season. He is also free to talk to anyone else about a deal now which is a large risk.

Medlen has made 61 career starts. Over the course of five seasons he owns a 2.96 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.

The 28-year-old Beachy has 46 career starts and a 3.23 ERA. If the Braves are unable to re-sign him t a lesser deal than someone else can.
