After unsuccessfully trying to trade catcher Jose Molina, the Rays have cut ties with the 39-year-old.
Long gone are the days that Molina could contribute anything with the bat but he is still a strong defender and stands a decent chance of landing a backup job somewhere.
Molina hit a laughable .178/.230/.187 in 80 games last year.
The Rays also cut ties with second baseman Cole Figueroa. The 27-year-old will try to find a new home after hitting just .233/.286/.326 in 23 games during the 2014 season. He is only going to get a minor league deal.
Another catcher on the free agent market is now former Pirates minor leaguer Ramon Cabrera. Between Double-A affiliates for the Tigers and Pirates the 25-year-old batted .273/.325/.364 which leaves him looking at minor league options.
