To the negative James Shields almost single handily prevented the Kansas City Royals from winning the World Series.

Still the Royals want to bring back “Big Game” Shields and have extended a qualifying offer to him worth $15.3 million. The 32-year-old is expected to decline the offer as he is seeking a multi-year deal.

The Royals will do their best to re-sign the right hander who has become one of baseball’s better pitchers over the last three years. Shields was 14-8 with a 3.21 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP across 227 innings in the regular season.

Shields was 1-2 with a 6.12 ERA in five post season starts this year which included two losses in the World Series two the San Francisco Giants.
