The Texas Longhorns were feeling good about their offense and quarterback David Ash following a convincing win over North Texas.
On Monday Longhorns head coach Charlie Strong announced that Ash would miss the second game of the season against BYU due to a concussion. Ash played in just three games a year ago while dealing with multiple concussions.
In Saturday’s 38-7 win over North Texas, Ash was 19-of-34 for 190 yards with a passing and a rushing touchdown. He also committed a fumble that was recovered for a North Texas touchdown.
Ash is being evaluated by the Longhorns medical staff. According to Strong, Ash’s family and the team’s medical staff will discuss discuss his retirement from football.
Tyrone Swoopes will start at quarterback for Texas against BYU. Jeerrod Heard will be listed as the backup.
BYU won last years game against Texas by a 40-21 score. Texas allowed a school-record 550 yards rushing.
