Tennessee Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger was thrust into extended play on Friday night after second string Charlie Whitehurst left with an injury to his hand.
Mettenberger was 20-of-25 for 270 yards and two touchdowns in the Titans but also threw an interception and fumbled.
If Whitehurst’s hand injury is significant then Mettenberger could instantly become the backup to Jake Locker. Given Locker’s injury history the Titans could be forced to start Mettenberger at some point after initially planning to ride him on the bench this season.
