The Cincinnati Reds have placed starting pitcher Homer Bailey on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right flexor tendon.

Bailey, 28, has no clear timetable for his return to the mound but the right hander is hoping to pitch again this season.

Dylan Axelrod was recalled from Triple-A Louisville to take Bailey’s rotation spot.

In 23 starts this season Bailey was 9-5 with a 3.71 ERA and a 1.23 WHIP. In his last outing against Cleveland on Aug. 7 he went seven innings allowing four hits and a walk.
