Carolina Panthers defensive end Greg Hardy has been found guilty of assault and communicating threats against his girlfriend.

Hardy, 25, allegedly attacked and attempted to strangle his girlfriend Nicole Holder over her relationship with rapper Nelly.

“When he let go of me, . . He got on top of me and strangled me,” Holder said about the attack. “He looked into my eyes and told me he was going to kill me.”

The Charlotte Observer reports that the judge found the testimony of Holder credible and consistent with medical information received.

Hardy’s defense argued that Holder’s injuries occurred after she threw herself into a bathtub.

Hardy is to have a 60 day suspended sentence with 18 months of supervision until he completes a course. He would be allowed to travel with the Panthers.

The lawyers for Hardy are already appealing the decision to the Superior Court. There will now be a jury trial. Holder and her attorney’s are also said to be considering a civil suit for damages.
