Joey Logano criticizes 72-year-old Morgan Shepherd following wreck

Despite being in a backup car, Joey Logano worked his way to the front of the field in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

All of Logano’s hard work was for naught as the slower car of Morgan Shepherd made contact with him ending his chances of victory at the 1.058 mile Loudon track.

Following the wreck Logano had some harsh words for the veteran Shephard.

“Slowest car on the race track took us out. Go figure,” Logano said. “We had a pretty good Auto Trader Ford, just doing what we could to hang in there. We were running second, Brad was really, really fast … Felt like we could have had a Penske one-two again, and we get taken out by the slowest car.”

“I feel like there should be a driving test before you get out in a Cup car to make sure you know how to drive before you drive one,” Logano said. “I don’t know. I guess there isn’t.”

NASCAR later deemed the incident as just racing, something Logano said was not necessarily the sports fault.

“It’s not NASCAR’s fault he slid up and is the slowest car on the track,” he said. “If you can’t control your stuff, don’t even be out there. If you’re 10 laps down, what are you even doing?”

Once a fixture in the Sprint Cup Series, Shepherd now is a part-time driver. Anytime he Shepherd gets behind the wheel of a Sprint Cup car he breaks his own record for oldest driver in Series history. He is a four time winner in the sport.
