The Chicago White Sox have designated left handed reliever Scott Downs for assignment.
Downs, 38, has not pitched well this season posting a 6.08 ERA and a 1.65 WHIP in 23 2/3 innings of work. Signed to a one-year deal worth $3.75 million with team option for 2015 the White Sox expected more of Downs.
Someone could claim Downs on waivers relieving the White Sox of the remaining money on Downs’ contract but its just as likely that he goes unclaimed.
