Kansas City Royals prospect Kyle Zimmer has been shut down for the next 6-8 weeks following a lat strain.
Zimmer, 22, had been limited to extended spring training thus far and now will likely be out for all of June and part of July.

The 6-foot-3 Zimmer made 22 starts a season ago in the minors compiling a 4.32 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP between High-A Wilmington and Double-A Northwest Arkansas.
He was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 Draft.
