Chicago White Sox relief pitcher Matt Lindstrom is headed for ankle surgery.
Manager Robin Ventura broke the news on Wednesday but did not clarify whether the team expected the 34-year-old right hander to return or not.
Lindstrom injured his ankle on Monday evening when he attempted to field a bunt.
Prior to going down Lindstrom had been working the ninth inning for the White Sox picking up six saves. In 19 games this season he compiled a 3.32 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP. Expect more details on Thursday.
