Miami Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez has been diagnosed with a tear in the ulnar collateral ligament. Tommy John surgery has been recommended for the right hander.
Obviously the loss of Fernandez would be a blow to the Marlins and fantasy owners alike. Surgery would cost Fernandez the rest of the 2014 season as well as the start of next year.

Fernandez is scheduled to see Marlins team doctor Lee Kaplan Tuesday to see if he confirms the original diagnosis and recommendation.
A season after winning the NL Rookie of the Year Award, Fernandez was 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA this year.
