Joey Logano won Saturday night’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Richmond International Raceway to claim his second win of the season.
The driver of the No. 22 Pennzoil Ford Fusion crossed the start finish line ahead of Jeff Gordon and Kyle Busch to claim the win in the Toyota Care 400. Logano led 46 of 400 laps around the 0.75-mile oval located in Richmond, VA.
Saturday’s running of the Toyota Owners 400 began with Kyle Larson on the pole. Larson was given the top spot after setting the fast time in practice session number one after rain cancelled qualifying. Early on Brad Keselowki and Kevin Harvick saw time at the front of the field while a competition caution came out on lap 40.
By the midway point it became clear that tires would be a issue all night as they constantly wore out 50 laps into a run. Another thing that became obvious was that the car of Jeff Gordon would be a contender. With less than 40 laps to go Matt Kenseth went to the front of the field but shortly thereafter cars came to pitroad following Jimmie Johnson losing a tire.
A flurry of cautions would soon follow. As Kenseth, Gordon and Keselowski battled for the lead Joey Logano drove past all three to take the lead and win his second race of the season.
