Martin Perez notched his first career shutout on Friday evening as the Texas Rangers downed the Chicago White Sox.

Perez, 23, allowed just three hits while striking out nine White Sox needing just 109 pitches.

Friday’s start was not the first gem of Perez this season as he now owns a 1.86 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and a 20/7 K/BB ratio though his first four starts. Up next for Perez is the Oakland Athletics.

Prior to Friday’s game the White Sox released reliever Donnie Veal. The left hander has dealt with control issues throughout his career which culminated in a nasty outing for the White Sox last Saturday where he allowed four runs over 1 2/3 innings  against Cleveland.

Marlins wins on Stanton’s walk off grand slam

The Miami Marlins were tied up with the Seattle Mariners on Friday night when Giancarlo Stanton stepped to the plate.

The home run was the sixth of the season for Stanton and as importantly it sent the home team fans home happy.
