The Miami Marlins have signed free agent Micah Owings to a minor league contract.
Owings, now 31, is attempting to be a pitcher again after spending last season as an outfielder/first baseman. He was released by Washington mid-way though last season after spending time at Triple-A. Later he signed with Milwaukee.
The Marlins will have Owings report to extended spring training. He will eventually join their Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans.
In parts of six season as a big league pitcher, Owings is a carer 32-33 with a 4.86 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He saw time as both a starter and reliever making 68 starts and 70 relief appearances
As a hitter he owns a .283/.310/.502 line with nine home runs and 35 RBI in 219 plate appearances..
